Edith Alonso
Play all audio recordingsComposer, pianist and sound artist born in Madrid (1974). She studied piano, music theory and composition at the conservatories of Madrid and Pamplona (Spain). Electroacoustic and instrumental composition studies in Paris (GRM, IRCAM, Paris VII University). She has attended courses held by composers Philippe Leroux, Jose Manuel López López, and François Bayle. PhD in arts, sciences and technologies at University Paris 8 Saint-Denis-Vincennes (Paris) and PhD in philosophy at University Complutense (Madrid). She won the SACEM price at the end of her electroacoustic composition studies, and received grants of the French Ministry of Research and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign affaires.
As a composer she received several distinctions and prizes: winner of Madrid Abierto competition 2008, honorable mention in Pauline Oliveros Prize 2010, nominated in the Prix Europe competition 2009, and honorable mention in the Hablar en Arte competition 2009. She has been commissioned by RNE (Spanish National Radio) and CDMC (Center for contemporary music, Spain) and she has also represented Spain in the TIME (International Tribune of electroacoustic music of UNESCO).
Her compositions have been performed at numerous international festivals, including the International Computer Music Conferences of Belfast and Montreal, the XXIV Festival de Alicante de Música Contemporánea, Sound and music computing conference (Paris), Synthèse (Bourges) and others in Portugal, Spain, Columbia, Argentina, Germany, Sweden, South Korea, Cuba, Costa Rica, and Mexico. She has also collaborated with other media, including film and dance, as well as sound installations and improvisations.
