JUAN CARLOS TOLOSA (º Córdoba,  Argentina, 1966)

Argentine composer, conductor, improvising pianist and teacher.

He studied composition at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (Belgium).

In that city, he attended composition workshops with Luciano Berio, György Ligeti, Pierre Boulez. Karlheinz Stockhausen, Brian Ferneyhough, Iannis Xenakis, Luca Francesconi, Magnus Lindberg, among others (1990-1998).

He is a founding member of BLACK JACKETS COMPANY (1995) in Brussels, of which he was musical director, participating in international festivals in Europe and Latin America. Co-founder of the Córdoba Ensamble (Argentina), of which he was artistic and musical director. He also founded and directed the Contemporary Laboratory of the Córdoba Ensamble.

He collaborated as composer and conductor with ensembles and soloists such as ICTUS, Black Jackets Company, Stéphane Ginsburgh, SUONO MOBILE argentina, Nonsense Ensamble Vocal de Solistas, Ensamble SÜDEN, MEI, Flute Duo Lavado - Fischer, musica impura, Córdoba Ensamble, Cuarteto de Cuerdas de la UnTreF, Taller de Música Contemporánea (IMUC, Santiago de Chile), Movimiento Paralelo, Bruno Lo Bianco, Ana Ligia Mastruzzo, Patricia García, Orquesta Sinfónica de Córdoba, Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional (Argentina), Orquesta Nacional de Música Argentina (ONMA) Juan de Dios Filiberto, Orquesta Estable del Teatro Argentino de La Plata, Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Coro Nacional de Música Argentina (CO.NA.MA).

His works have been performed in America and Europe, in prestigious international festivals (ARS MUSICA - Belgium-, ATEMPO, Festival de música contemporánea chilena, Ciclo de Música Contemporánea del Teatro San Martín, among others).

In stage music, he collaborated in the productions "Le Soussol" (2007), "32, rue vandenbranden" (2009) and "À Louer" (2011) with the company Peeping Tom (Belgium). In 2014, he was musical director of the premiere of the opera "Ese grito es todavía un grito de amor", by Gabriel Valverde.

He has been a member of the "Náger & Tolosa Piano Duo" since 2000.

Between 1998 and 2016 he was professor of the Seminar of Musical Aesthetics of the 20th century and of Aesthetics of the Arts in Contemporaneity at the Jaques Dalcroze Rhythmic Institute in Belgium, as well as of workshops for children in composition at "Matrix" (Leuven, Belgium).

He is currently the appointed Professor of Instrumentation and Orchestration I, II and III at the College of Arts (Universidad Nacional de Córdoba), and is also Professor of Composition, Harmony and Conducting at La Colmena Escuela de Músicos. He also teaches Choral and Orchestral Conducting Technique at the Tecnicatura Superior del ISEAM Domingo Zipoli.
