Symeon Waseen

Symeon Waseen holds a doctorate degree from the Eastman School of Music, a Master’s degree from Bowling Green State University in Composition and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, with a double major in Piano Performance and Theory/Composition. He has studied with Thomas Wegren, Marilyn Shrude, Robert Morris, and Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon. In addition to composing, Dr. Waseen is an active performer, specializing in music by contemporary composers, and has premiered several works written by himself and his colleagues. He has performed or had works performed at events such as the national SEAMUS conference, Heidelberg New Music Festival, Bowling Green New Music Festival, Western Illinois University New Music Festival, College of Southern Nevada New Music Festival, O Instituto Villa-Lobos da Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, and has been awarded the Eastman School of Music "Wayne Brewster Barlow Prize" for his Concerto for Voice and Voices. More recently he was the South Dakota Music Teachers Association 2012 commissioned composer. Symeon has been teaching theory, composition, and piano at Black Hills State University since fall 2010.
