Manfred Stahnke
4th String Quartet "Schroedinger's Crystal"
2000
Erwin Schrödinger thought, just before others found out about the DNA structure, that the principle of life must be close to an "asymmetrical crystal". If it were a perfect, saturated crystal, it would not have the ability to change according to an ever changing environment.
Perhaps we as musicians could think about the fact that music is always testing, questioning, and the composer sometimes building a seemingly "coherent" entity in spite of his or her so extremely fragile searching movement.
The soundfile was played by the Hamburg Scardanelli String Quartet in 2001.
