Notes on this piece Coding Cloud
Writing a new instrumental piece means trying to give birth (sometimes a bit desperately) to new meaning, through a medium, in this case the cello, which already has a long and rich legacy.
The entire composition derives from a sort of secret genetic code, a fragment of history deeply inscribed in the memory of the cello. This material is “opened“ in a metaphorical cloud of virtuality and “re-encoded“ to generate new sound structures.
Four different re-codifications/emanations of the genetic code are interlaced, each characterized by its own — extremely dilated or compressed — temporality. Time seems to flow differently for each recoding and the temporal dimension profoundly influences the morphology and the character of the sound material associated with it.
A further aspect is present in Coding Cloud: the cello has to be embraced and is the only instrument that seems to be one with the body of the interpreter and to form, in the fusion with it, a hybrid being with increased possibilities. In Coding Cloud therefore the voice of the interpreter is added to that of the instrument, in a natural way, as if both came from the same source.
