Circum Ambulatio

Interpretive Note - Circum Ambulatio is a piece based on a fairly simple basic motif which is declined by playing on the "poly-speed", but which asks the percussionist a double attention, a double-hear -  I know they are used to it - but in this case it is necessary to give the impression that two people are  playing together (without becoming schizophrenic). 

Technical note - Regarding the instruments, I chose these gongs because I had them on hand and that  I found that they went well together, but you can very well make another choice that seems consistent to  you, as long as there are four perceptible heights. It is possible to replace the gongs by four cymbals  playing on the domes (the top), or four other convincing metals (as long as there is four noticeable heights).  About the bass drum, I find it is interesting that the setting is closer to the sound of toms, with skins  without vents, and if possible with a fairly soft mallet.

Note d'interprétation - Circum Ambulatio est une pièce basée sur un motif de base assez simple  qui se décline en jouant sur la "poly-vitesse", mais qui demande au percussionniste une double  attention, un double-entendre - je sais qu'ils ou elles en ont l'habitude - mais dans ce cas là  il est nécessaire de donner l'impression que deux personnes jouent ensemble (sans pour autant  devenir schizophrène).   

Note technique - Concernant les instruments, j'ai choisi ces gongs car je les avais sous la main  et que je trouvais qu'ils allaient bien ensemble, mais vous pouvez très bien faire un autre choix qui  vous paraît cohérent, tant qu'il y a quatre hauteurs perceptibles. Il est possible de remplacer les gongs par quatre cymbales en jouant sur les dômes, ou quatre autres métaux convaincants (tant qu'il y a  quatre hauteurs perceptibles). A propos de la grosse caisse, je trouve intéressant que le réglage se  rapproche du son des toms, avec des peaux sans évents, et avec si possible une batte assez douce.
