Notes on this piece Point of Tranquility is a title borrowed from the painting of Morris Louis (1912-1962), an American painter whose works are regarded as part of the abstract expressionism aesthetics. In the canvas, thick lines of color appear to emerge from the center of the canvas and create harmonious movement, evoking a feeling of tranquility. In the musical composition, the word “tranquility” alludes to the contemplative character of the harmonies and sounds. The harmonic progressions are slow, the harmonies mix and overlap. The sounds of the harp contrast with the harmonic layer played by the flute, clarinet and violin. The spectator will benefit more from the piece if their listening is focused on the overall sound result, as well as on the gestural contrasts between the harp and the other instruments. The piece was written for students of the Jean Wiéner conservatoire (France).
