RAIN symbolizes fertility and growth that skies are bringing to earth. Sometimes it is also associated with tears and death. Rain songs symbolize and reflect different aspects of the rain phenomenon.
The work has been inspired by three poems - In the Twilight rain, a playful haiku by Matsuo Basho, expressionistic “De Profundis” by Georg Trakl and an excerpt from Greek mythology about imprisoned Danae being visited by Zeus in a form of golden rain, thus impregnating her.
However, the poems are not used in the singer’s part. The voice is rather treated as one of the instruments of the ensemble, finding its expression in abstract phonemes and instrumental sounds, thus extending the overall sonic palette of the ensemble.
