Notes on this piece These five short movements explore different aspects of cello playing. No.1 is focused on slow glissandi, no. 2 on the humorous aspect as well as some degree of virtuosity, no.3 is exploiting the quasi vocal capability of the instrument. No. 4 is played pizzicato throughout, including the rather uncommon tremolo chords in pizzicato. The last movement is a study in playing on the harmonic series, with abundant use of natural harmonics.
My works for the cello include the Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra, finished 1990 (BabelScores). Then came Out of the Tempest for cello and piano (published by Norsk Musikforlag AS), Not Quite Solo for cello and electronics (publ. by Norwegian National Library Sheet Music), and the present work and Syllables (publ. by Norwegian National Library Sheet Music) for cello solo.
