Two Sketches and a Landscape

In 1980 I got a commission from the Norwegian State Broadcasting for two short pieces for piano. That became Sketch I-II.
Already from the start I planned  a third and longer movement, that combines the basic elements in the sketches, unison melody in varying octave doublings  (Sketch I) and music approaching parts of a harmonic spectrum (Sketch II.) The last element is brought a step further in some sections in Landscape, by using harmonics by damping the strings inside the piano with one hand while playing on the keyboard. My model for the Landscape movement was nothing less than Mozart’s great C minor Fantasia, with distinctly different sections, but at the same time an inner unity.
