In 1992, Stefan Leverenz from Hamburg-Rahlstedt gave me the "Gröna visboken" with Swedish folk tunes and asked me to set songs for his Swedish wife to music in a "modern way". We chose the instrumentation viola and piano for the premiere with Christian Stahnke, viola, and Marija Jankova Noller, piano.
My composition tries to maintain a Swedish folk tone, even though many rhythmic elements come from other corners of the world, perhaps - in the pulsation rhythms - from Africa, perhaps - in an extremely slow time shift - from the High Andes.
