My grandmother Maria Frank Abrams was an artist who over the course of six decades produced scores of paintings. I have always been surrounded by her paintings and have developed a strong love and attachment to many of them. I believe that in some way they have influenced my aesthetic and artistic tendencies and more specifically have influenced me as a musician.

The four piano miniatures each derive their basic concept and mood, and to differing extents their form and content, from four separate paintings.
