Dedicated to Elision Ensemble
The origin of the project dates back to my first encounter with Elision Ensemble at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in the United Kingdom. There, I had the opportunity to present my portfolio of works to their artistic director, Daryl Buckley, who, a few months later, proposed that I compose a duo for trumpet and trombone. This invitation became the primary motivation for writing music for an instrumental ensemble for which I had not previously composed anything. The result of this composition, which I titled Grito ("Howl"), is a piece consisting of 17 sections with similar characteristics and elements. In some of these sections, both musicians are required to make formal decisions (the order of the material), either independently or together. In many of these 17 sections, the score calls for improvisational fragments that must reference six musical materials embedded within the work itself, which form part of its genesis.
