Notes on this piece The piece emerged from a collaboration with recorder player Tomma Wessel, renowned for her mastery of both early music and contemporary recorder techniques. She initiated a project titled Fast nur Luft ("Almost Just Air") as part of her research into extended techniques, inviting composers to create new works, each focusing on a specific technique. I was particularly drawn to flutter-tonguing and chose it as the centrepiece of my composition. The resulting piece, flutters étude, was commissioned by the Concertgebouw Brugge and premiered in Bruges in February 2024.
