Voi[e, x, s] is an "in situ" project that has followed, over the years, the transformation of Chapelle Charbon from an abandoned railway depot into a city park. The work emerged from encounters between Cie MPDA – Alexandra Lacroix, urbanists Richard Sennett and John Bingham-Hall, directors of Theatrum Mundi, and myself. This dialogue was facilitated by the TM workshops organised by Theatrum Mundi, which aimed to answer the question, "What is sociable acoustics?". The workshops explored the possibility of a convergence between artistic and sociological-urban research, which could merge into a collective artistic project. In Voi[e. x. s], the architecture of the site, the music, and the staging are all essential elements of an interconnected work centred around a creative "ecosystem". The design and composition of the musical component were achieved through synergy and close collaboration with the entire team, as well as workshops with the local residents and experiments on the Chapelle Charbon site, which has become one of the largest parks in Paris.
