Notes on this piece Quartet RBG was commissioned for the Belcea String Quartet by the businessman and art collector Michael Galloway in memory of his twin brother. Robin Galloway spent his life in sea-borne commerce developing a particular expertise in the containeristion of cargo on the trade routes of the South Atlantic.
The quartet is in two movements. The first is a 'marine' or seascape. The second is a meditation built from fragments of the great Victorian hymn "Eternal father, strong to save, whose arm hath bound the endless wave".
