The work is inspired by Aeschylus’ drama Oresteia, where Erinyes are hunting Orestes. In Greek mythology the Erinyes, also known as Furies, were female chthonic deities of vengeance; they were sometimes referred to as “infernal goddesses”.
The quartet takes shape from the basic elements of this story: the names of the three goddesses, the hunting (Θήρα) and the Euphemism (in ancient greek the attempt of humans to calm the deities down in order to make them be more indulgent with their decisions).
