The Beginning of Weight
The Beginning of Weight is a trio that attempts to “understand” the two illegible musical composites that invade the score. These musical composites recontextualize the character “Weight” from my solo piano epic Wilderness and Self-Sufficiencyvand represent the piling on of musical meaning to a point beyond practicality. In the first two movements of the composition, occurrences of “Weight” are harmonized by the surrounding music; the third movement is a contemplative glance back at the preceding events.
