Tasselmaker

Tasselmaker is an abstract, fantasy tone poem. The title is the English translation of my last name “Puskulcu” (in Turkish “Püskülcü”). The story behind my last name is that my great-grandmother used to make tassels for fez hats during war times in the late 19th century Ottoman Empire. When Mustafa Kemal Atatürk passed the surname law in 1934, my grandfather decided to take the last name “Püskülcü.” Personally, this story has been very inspiring for me as an artist, and I have long wanted to compose a tone poem dedicated to my family.
