The sonic image of multiple spaces resonating in heterogeneous ways was the starting point for the composition of espaces glissants(sliding spaces). The word "space" evokes both a delimited area that one can enter or leave, and at the same time, a vast, almost limitless surface. When moving from the geometrical notion of territory to the more fluid dimension of sound, boundaries and oppositions become immediately smoother. It is there that the acoustic sound of the ensemble and the projections of the electronics converge. Both entities accumulate energy and slide into one space, then another, and yet another.
The ensemble and electronics gradually construct these spaces, becoming immersed within them: are they adjacent? Continuous? Overlapping? Incoherent? By playing with the continuity of the macro-form and the discontinuity of individual musical elements, the piece traces a trajectory that moves forward without ever returning to its starting point.
The electronic set-up on stage and within the concert hall was essential to realising the piece. The loudspeakers on stage, positioned very close to the performers, suggest the possibility of merging the acoustic sounds of the players with their extension through live electronics. The loudspeakers in the concert hall emphasise the physicality of sound and space, immersing the listener in this sonic environment.
