Notes on this piece
Ars Umbrae
This work was awarded with the Special Prize and the Audience Prize in the Isang Yun International Composition Prize 2013.The title is translated from Latin as ‘Art of the Shadow’, so the piece takes the idea of the shadow as the main subject. This element can be realized in different ways in music. In this work, there two different forms in which this idea is used. On the one hand, the shadow appears like the echo of the sound and this is employed in different temporal scales. On the other hand, we can think shadow like something dark and in the piece different sound objects are employed associated to the darkness such as noise or diffuse sounds. So the shadow is focused both from diachronic approach as synchronous and both coexist along the piece.
