Notes on this piece Metamorphose – für Péter Tornyai was composed in 2011 and is dedicated to Saar Berger.
It is based on the overtone possibilities of the double-horn (B-flat and F). The different fingerings and lip positions (fundamentals and overtones) are explored to the very extremes. Beside the non-tempered materials there are other type of motives. All the motives go through a constant metamorphosis throughout the piece. By the end of the piece the short motives mix with each other so much that one cannot hear the difference between them as well as the logic development of the individual materials is lost and they become one scale-type unitiy finally.
The title of the piece is dedicated to a composer friend of mine, Péter TORNYAI who studied the overtone possibilities on string instruments in detail. This piece is a kind of reaction to that study.
