Notes on this piece Performed by the Munich Radio Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lorraine, and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.
This work reflects my particular interest in creating sonic structures that can be flipped over and turned around in a quasi cubist fashion. It is remarkable how one same object or situation might look rather different depending on the moment of the day or night in which we look at it. Velocity, light, weight and texture can vary in appearance at a glance. The use of space as such a flexible body that can be folded over – and presented through different lights- is the starting point for a work that gets also transformed by certain humorous points. There are two main critical moments in the piece, which function as arrivals and "hinges" for opening and projecting the previously created space. To me, these instances represent a very dear ideal of a collective feeling.
