“lost motion” for string orchestra works with an apparently very fragile, subtle sonority, using rather reduced material. The piece revolves on the auditory threshold.Another aspect is the deceleration – both of motion and of the formal progression, which comes along with a reduction of harmony, rhythm and dynamics until the piece appears to come to a halt. This stagnation, however, does not signify the end of the piece, but becomes a new formal turning point.
