Soilasara grew out of a collaboration with Soila Häkkinen and Sara Cubarsi at the 2015 Atlantic Music Festival. This piece was written specifically for these two violinists to be performed in the chapel at Colby College in Waterville, ME. In soilasara, I attempted to create a dramatic narrative that unfolds between the two performers through multiple layers of sometimes contradictory meaning embedded in the music, movement and speech of each performer.
Soilasara is dedicated to Soila Häkkinen and Sara Cubarsi.
