Notes on this piece Rumor de frío II (2016) for baritone saxophone
This piece is the second of a series that takes as its starting point certain sonorous context that we can perceive equivalent to what we understand by murmur, i. e. a kind of low continuous background sound.
In this case, there is a double approach to murmur idea, both related with sonic contexts linked to cold (since translated tittle is murmur of cold). On the one hand, the main material at the beginning of the piece is something that keeps a symbolic relationship with cold or, rather, it involves a physical reaction to it, as is the case of tremor that occurs when we shiver due to feel cold. For that percussive sounds are prevailing in the opening section of the piece. On the other hand, the creative process was also influenced by certain attitude of mimesis to sounds we can associate with cold, as the wind sound that it is developed in different ways along the piece. The entire work shows a transition from the first kind of material to the second one. So, the phrase murmur of cold will have a double meaning in the piece, it will be both a sound context and the sound result of a physical reaction.
