“The piece Ymagino was a commission for Spanish Violinist Roberto Alonso Trillo’s Bach project, and its relation to Bach 1st violin partita can be read about in his book, Death and (Re)birth of J. S Bach.
Although related to Bach, Bach remains more or less only as ruins in my piece; possible to find only with the microscope. Something more important, can be sensed in the title. Ymagino alludes to the early medieval manuscript, in Latin referred to as the Picatrix, of Arabic origin, which – among many things – depict a number of strange talisman or charms, referred to as ymago. Essentially, they are constellations of signs which the magi channels or gathers the forces of spirits. The piece, Ymagino, has little ambition of being a magical formula. However, in sound it is a constellation – all of which emanates from the performer before you. The piece requires the musician to record and perform all parts. Designating all to mirror his or her own sensibility and exploration of the sounds.
