Of the more than 12000 parts of which a concert piano is composed, the strings (about 230) are a small part: less than 2%. Of these 12000, about 10,000 are movable: a very intricate labyrinth of wood, felt and metal, aimed at prolonging the movements of the pianist and projecting them from their body to the strings. There is no direct contact between the two subjects; on the contrary, it is probably the case of musician/instrument relationship with more intermediate steps than exists.
Every good piano manifactor tries to minimize any possible mechanical noise, because the sound must come from the strings alone.
Yet all those components, which do all the work without receiving any glory, those components have voices of their own, and it takes very little effort to be able to hear them. You can start, for example, by closing the piano.
