Notes on this piece

The 2007 Klaviersonate, in three movements, is dedicated to the New Yorker pianist David Witten, who premiered it. Its German title suggests my expectation that it may be heard as a classical sonata, but its movements were made in reaction to the beauty of three great plastic works, by Caravaggio, Francisco Lisboa and Rembrandt.
