The title metaphorically refers to the formal structure of the whole composition, divided into three sections: two outer ones, symmetrical in their episodes and their melodic line, and one opposing central one. A spread elegiac lyrism, almost a reminder of Debussy’s cantability, is the signature of the first and the third section, whereas the second section is defined by an ostinato, in sharp contrast with the loose melodic fraseggio of the outer ones: it develops a long, rythmically-strict progression, a sort of insistent ritual: it is perhaps the image of debauchery and damnation, which lead us astray only to show us our path from a new perspective.
