Variations on Etude N°45
VARIATIONS ON ETUDE N° 45 is a piece written for timpani solo on a theme of an etude by Franz Krüger. The piece is set of variations on the Krüger theme using rhythms out of the flamenco tradition and dance rhythms from Soleare, Sevillana, Soléa, Malaguenas, and Seguiriyas. A voice part is added ad libitum to the piece so that the percussionist can play and sing at the same time. The piece was written as a competition piece for the percussionist Raoul Nies and was premiered at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe.
