Cantiga

In “Cantiga” I took as reference the "Cantigas de Santa María", by Alfonso X –specifically the numbers 1, 252 and 326– with the aim of evoking archaic sounds, establishing a dialogue with the sound universe of electronic music. The accordion seemed to me the ideal instrument due to its timbral potentialities that allow it to approach electronic music while creating sounds and articulations near to the instruments of medieval music. The work was commissioned by accordionist Arantza Aguirre and premiered at the Quincena Musica de San Sebastián 2006.
