Time Folds II develops the idea of Helmholtz resonators as a starting point to implement a system of subtle resonances throughout 4 different sized toms. In this piece the marimba is transformed in a meta-instrument or an instrument amplified by the addition of resonators –the toms– to predefined low register pitches. With this system, when the performer plays these notes, it sounds the marimba and the associated tom to this note. Depending on the size of each tom and its tuning, the resonance is filtered in a different frequency band.
Some bars of the work will be re-exposed by electronic means throughout the Helmholtz resonators creating an inner world of shadows and deformed repetitions that will change subtly the different percussive attacks and resonances during the piece.
