“Tremor machine” explores the rich spectral components of the violin as part of a system that loops analog and digital sound recursively. The instrument lays horizontally in a table amplified by a microphone. Any sound that enters the mic while be processed by a Max/MSP patch that will output a low modulated frequency through a speaker. A guitar string attached to the speaker cone will vibrate as a result of the low frequency sound. The performer uses the vibration of the guitar string to provoke violin sounds
that will eventually get caught by the microphone and start the cycle again. The patch also processes sound to output the feedback of the looping cycle. The feedback is filtered recursively using parameters of the spectral components of the violin. This work is the first study of a series of pieces that explore sound as the outcome of complex system interaction processes.
