The project was born from the idea of reflecting on the transition from adolescence to adulthood, and thus focusing on the transformation of the female body through the stages of entry into adult life. The aim is to question the ways of integrating into something pre-existing with the creative energy of new beginnings, like a form of germination. Emphasis is placed on the process of women’s inclusion in society and their active social participation.
The starting point of the project is the text by poet Irène Gayraud, written in the form of poetic fragments. Irène Gayraud crafted a text connected to contemporary rites of passage, drawing inspiration from different traditions and eras. Our collaborative work has focused on the possibility of bringing forth the direct testimonies of various women and recording them. The blending of cultures will provide access to diverse and varied rites of passage, involving the functioning of different societies. Passages establishes a strong link to orality through the multiplicity of voices that compose it and shape its identity. It aims to highlight the journey of sound, the interplay between the "present" voices of the poet and the soprano, and the "absent" voices of recorded women, as well as the interaction between acoustic instruments and electronics.
