Notes on this piece
Five Lieder on texts of Arthur Rimbaud
The FIVE SONGS ON TEXTS OF ARTHUR RIMBAUD are a psychogram of a split personality who has doubts about his existence. The five songs depict five different scenes that are musical monologues of the protagonist. Only the third song is a fictive dialogue between the singer and the off-voice of a woman who tries to break the protagonist out of his lethargy. In this third song the poem of Arthur Rimbaud is mixed with Paul Eluard’s famous poem Bonjour Tristesse, which inspired Francoise Sagan’s novel.
