Alessandro Solbiati

Born in Busto Arsizio in 1956, Alessandro Solbiati graduated from the Milan Conservatory in piano and composition, after having attended the Faculty of Physics for two years.

 

At the same time, he studied for four years (1977-80) with Franco Donatoni at the Chigiana Academy in Siena. Winner of various national and international competitions, he has received commissions from the Teatro alla Scala, the RAI, the French Ministry of Culture (1997, 2001, 2005 and 2008), Radio France, the University of Paris, the Mozarteum, the South Bank of London, the Gulbenkian Foundation of Lisbon, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra of Turin (2005), the Venice Biennale, the MilanoMusica Festival, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna etc. and his works have been performed by the most important festivals (Avignon , Strasbourg, Huddersfield, Présences '92, '94 and '97, Pontino, Wien Modern, MusikFabrik di Köln, Berlin (Festival Ultraschäll, Konzerthaus, Hochschüle ...), Sydney, Metz ,, Venice Biennale '81, '85 , '95, 2000, 2002 and 2008, Montepulciano, Holland Festival, Zagreb, Marseille (Festival Les musiques), Lisbon, Stockholm, IRCAM, S. Cecilia in Rome, Maastricht, RAI of Rome, Milan, Turin and Naples, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Settembre Musica, Unione Musicale, etc.) and I know have been recorded and broadcast by many European and American radios. Among the recordings most dear to him are the Oratorio In the desert, Quartetto con lied (Quartetto Borciani - Stradivarius), Trio (Trio Matisse - Aura) and three monographic CDs, the first recorded by the Ensemble Alternance of Paris (Stradivarius - 1999) and containing various chamber pieces, the second (Stradivarius - 2004), consisting of some pieces for a large Ensemble (Canto per Ania for cello and 14 instruments, By my window II for piano and 9 instruments, E lirica sombra for bass clarinet and 7 instruments, Ach, so früh? for soprano and seven instruments) and recorded by the Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain de Lyon and the Divertimento Ensemble of Milan, and the third (Stradivarius - 2007) in which Daniel Kawka, at the head of the RAI Symphony Orchestra , conducts Symphony, Second Symphony and Die Sterne des Leidlands.

 

In April 2009 he made his debut in the theater field with the opera "IL carro e i canti", from Puŝkin, commissioned by the Teatro Verdi in Trieste for its 2008-09 opera season.

 

A second opera, "Legend", from the Legend of the Grand Inquisitor contained in the Karamazov Brothers by Dostoevskij, commissioned by the Teatro Regio di Torino for the 2010-2011 Opera Season, was staged at the Carignano Theater in Turin in September 2011 with the directed by Gianandrea Noseda and directed by Stefano Poda.

 

Since 1995 he has been a teacher of Fugue and Composition at the "G. Verdi" Conservatory in Milan, after having been a teacher for the same subject at the Conservatory of Bologna between 1982 and 1994. In 1996 in Avignon and in 2005 in Metz he taught for the Center Acanthes.

 

He has held, among others, Masterclasses at the Higher Conservatories of Paris (1997, 2001, 2005 and 2011), of Mexico City (2002) and of Lyon (2003, 2007 and 2009).
