Fredrik Gran
Play all audio recordingsFredrik Gran was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He holds a B.A. and M.A. in composition from the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. Fredrik currently resides in Montréal, Canada, where he is a doctoral candidate in composition at McGill University, under the guidance of Philippe Leroux and Sean Ferguson.
Earlier studies include Musicology at the University of Stockholm, and composition studies at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenbourg and at the Gotland School of Music Composition in Visby. Among his teachers is Ole Lützow-Holm, Sven-David Sandström, William Brunson, Henrik Strindberg and Jesper Nordin.
He has attended master classes with Natasha Barret, Esa-Pekka Salonen, John Oswald, and the Swedish Radio Choire.
Fredrik writes orchestral, chamber, vocal, electroacoustic and live electronic music.
Fredriks compositions has been performed in the Americas, Europe and Asia, for example, at the SICMF in Seoul, ICMC in Belfast, PBSE in Tokyo, TNM in Weimar, Vilnius Festival Duskomanija , Brighton Soundwawe festival, Sound of Stockholm Festival and the Tank concert series in New York.
Fredrik has written music for, among others, KammarensembleN, Musica Vitae, The Pearls Before Sweine Experience, Stockholm Symphonic Wind Orchestra, cellist Emilie Girard- Charest and the McGill Contemporary Music Ensemble. Recently his piece portmanteau morphemes was awarded First Prize in codes d’acces Acces Arkea string orchestra competition and the CD an hour and ha half (electroacoustic works, Pink Pamphlet recordings) was nominated for the Swedish Art Music Prize (Nutida Musik).
Fredrik is a member of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT), International Computer Music Association (ICMA), Elektronmusikstudion (EMS), the Society of Swedish Composers (FST) and Fylkingen. Fredrik is a previous board member of the Society for Elecroacoustic Music in Sweden (SEAMS) and cofounder of Klubb Ambush (new music arranger).
