Violeta Cruz

Violeta Cruz was born in 1986 in Bogota (Colombia). Including both acoustic and electroacoustic pieces, her music questions the relationship between different qualities of listening –musical, functional, emotional- and their relation to musical writing. Interested as well in the connections with visual and plastic arts, a part of her work explores different combinations between the concert situation and the audiovisual installation.

Violeta Cruz studied music composition with Harold Vasquez and Guillermo Gaviria at the Javeriana University (Bogotá) where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in 2009. In 2007 she received the Young Composers - National Competition Prize of Colombia. In 2009 Violeta Cruz decided to settle in France to keep on with her studies with Jean-Luc Hervé. In 2010 she entered to the Paris Conservatoire where she is currently studying with Stefano Gervasoni. She is artist in residence of the II World Acoustic Ecology Congress in Switzerland in 2012. Her studies are funded by Nadia et Lili Boulanger International Foundation and France Foundation. Supported by Diaphonique, Franco-British fund for contemporary music, her orchestral work Cyanea is premiered in 2013 in London and Paris by Southbank Sinfonia. Her music has been also performed by ensembles such as Court-Circuit (FR), Ensemble SurPlus (GER), Prime Ensemble (SWZ), Trio Atyopsis (PER), Duo Sincronía (ESP) and Orquesta Sinfónica de Caldas (COL).
