Countdowns - B

Countdowns (2014) is written for ten instruments and two sampler-keyboards (played by the pianist and the percussionist respectively). The process of countdown, as can be seen in contrasting human situations (e.g. on New Year's Eve, before the launch of rockets, as preparation for im- and explosions, in sports, in music etc.), is used as a source of expectation and dramatic potential in the work. The Ensemble assumes the role of different countdown-machines and mirrors/enriches real countdown sounds presented by the samplers.!The work belongs to a series of recent works that draw its material from phenomena of the real world - e.g. "Emergency Procedures (2013)“ and "Safety Procedures (2012)“ - and is a reflection on the processes, gestures and sounds related to countdowns
