This reflection on the gravity of time spent in solitude oscillates between the outline of a song and the limits of exhaustion. From unpitched breath in limping steps, alternating with fragments of melodic babbling - tiresome obstinate search for a face in the crowd, as in the Petrarca verse that gives the piece its name - more precise singing is gradually reached: a vague memento of an aria (in turn, originally inspired by Ossian), in which hopelessness in love no longer leads to tired wandering, but to refusal to awaken.
