Worlds Within the Margin belongs to a cycle of works where I try to explore and to occupy some domains which are near the limits of our perception and of instrumental possibilities. Therefore, the piece evolves in extreme registers and dynamics. A certain dialectic of opposed domains results from such an exploration.
During the writing process I was highly inspired by the pictorial art where the action of the observer, beyond the content of the work, intrigues me particularly. A painting, being fixated in time, allows the observer to establish its own path and its own temporality. This idea inspired me to build some static but very animated textures —a polyphony of musical gestures— that each listener can experience differently as the piece unfolds. Occasionally some musical ideas detach from these textures and allows the audience to coincide in a similar listening experience. The piece is thus conceived as a succession or sequence of time-blocs that alternate with no real evolution.
