Arachne was commissioned by the flutist Annamaria Morini, with whom I worked in close contact during the composition of the piece, supported by her technical expertise and her desire to find optimal solutions to my propositions and ideas, particularly concerning the fragile field I choose to develop this work: it is entirely consisting of multiphonic sounds and also the individual pitches are partials from the multiple ones.
I purposely choose the timber of the Alto Flute and the peculiar colour of the multiphonic sounds, veiled, faint, volatile, to give voice to Arachne, to her intimate tragedy, coming from afar but in fact timeless.
Unfortunately Annamaria was not able to premiere the piece because of her ill and premature departure.
Arachne was premiered by Sara Baldini, on 15th May 2019, at the Maison des Musiques in Bruxelles.
