Roaring in the cloud

Roaring in the clouds (2007) for Trombone and Percussion, commissioned by Rikskonserter (Swedish Concert Institute) for Axelsson & Nilsson Duo. This piece is inspired by a verse from Isaiah 30:30: “ The Lord will cause men to hear his majestic voice and will make them to see his arm coming down with raging anger and consuming fire with cloudburst, thunderstorm and hail”. In the Old Testament of Bible, the Lord God is often described as a mighty warrior, a God of wrath and vengeance, which incite negative feeling. But when we succeed to abandon the literal interpretation of the images and words, and to perceive creatively beyond its appearance of symbolism and its extreme expression, we may discover paradoxically another Reality of Justice and Truth that transcends men’s understanding in a mystical context. The score is consisted roughly in three parts. Much attention is given on the timbre of the instruments and their interaction in the composition. The dramatic expression and its development are also the major concerns for the piece.
