Different pieces of rag can be discerned, apart from the first impression of their colors, by subtle differences in texture. Yarns of different thicknesses, handcrafted or industrial, microfibers; each raw material produces a different result, depending on how it is woven. Rags like tears in a larger fabric – eventually certain threads no longer settle and jump out, breaking with the fabric and drawing attention to themselves. In all this variety there is some sign of a common origin; the relationships between threads, the sewing (or its absence) in the foreground, the threads – as pretexts for weaving. From the binding of loose threads to the weaving of different rags (with special attention to their seams), only a few wefts are new around here; rather a patchwork from what lay at the bottom of the drawer. Always in mind, how most distant rags (in space and time) formed from the primeval pulp from which the first sheets of paper were created.
