5th String Quartet - TonArt Version
written for the TonArt String Quartet 2022/23
loosely based on ideas from the solo violin piece CAPRA 4
This version of the 5th string quartet also has my violin solo CAPRA 4 as a basis, but it is based on semi-improvisation. It focuses on special families of integer number intervals. The 1st part deals with natural thirds 5/4, 6/5 and sixths 5/3 and 8/5, the 2nd part with fourths and fifths, the 3rd part with natural 7/4 sevenths together with fourths, the 4th part is Gamelan-like with 8/7 seconds. The 5th and last part comments on Otonality and Utonality up to the number 11.
This version was played by the TonArt String Quartet at the Hamburg Blurred Edges Festival to be heard on the recording.
