In this piece, I endeavored to play with our short-term memory and with the way it works to help us make sense of the form of a piece of music. By using subtle (and sometimes hidden) cues to trigger our memory, I intended to guide the listener through the piece, making sure no new material would be introduced without having been subtly presented beforehand, sometimes creating a sense of déjà vu. To break the sense of predictability of the discourse that might arise from such practice, I added some contrasting timbral gestural elements in the piece.
The main materials of this composition are inspired from the different gestures of a hand drawing on a piece of paper: sometimes very assertive and fast, sometimes hesitant, sketching, erasing, shaping the contour of a line, adding depth and texture, or repeating the same pattern over and over.
