This work was commissioned by Ensemble Modern and DAAD Artists-in-Berlin as part of the project Re-Inventing Smetak, an homage to (and a dive into the thoughts and creations of ) the Swiss-Brazilian composer, thinker, and instruments' inventor Walter Smetak. volvere is dedicated to the memory of Walter Smetak and to the Ensemble Modern, its musicians, artistic and executive staff. The piece makes use of fragments of texts by Smetak, most of them from the book "O retorno ao futuro, (ao espírito)".
