This piece was written after the poem by Ana Cristina Cesar (Rio de Janeiro, 1952-1983): a história está completa: wide sargasso sea, azul / azul que não me espanta e canta como uma / sereia de papel -- the story is complete: wide sargasso sea, blue / blue that does not frighten me and sings like a
paper siren -- The first approach to this poem was in the form of a song for voice and piano, later expanded into the orchestral piece. After the direct reference to Jean Rhys’s novel – as the missing half of Brontë’s Jane Eyre – the poet answers it with a challenge to the Sargasso Sea itself, this cemetery of ships.
