his piece is based on a Korean lullaby, a very simple tune with four repetitive notes. I have created a narrative depiction of bedtime. It starts with a calm, warm atmosphere, where it is dark with the intermittent twittering of birds and crickets. Mommy rocks the little one to soothe her. Is the baby sleeping yet? No. Suddenly, the baby opens her eyes wide and is startled by something... a tiny noise or a stray strand of light from the neighbors. Oh no! But mommy will try again with those four notes. A drowsy, warming four notes. Over and over. After the long, long singing, the baby falls asleep with the most peaceful smile on her face. However, that is when mommy starts her dream and explores a different land while holding the baby. In the end, both mommy and the baby fall asleep.
I dedicate this piece to my son and daughter who gave me the inspiration.
